On a seriously bitter cold Thanksgiving weekend, in a drafty Durham farmhouse, somewhen around 2006, we began making this record. I was fortunate to be working in what we were referring to as the 'Bu Hanan House' named after the label/collective begun by Go Machine members Alex Lazara, David Karsten Daniels, and Daniel Hart. It grew to include Perry Wright and by extension Josh Snyder. Most of the guys lived in the house and their bedrooms were recording rooms. Cables snaked all over the place. The house had a lot of comers and goers and I'm not 100% sure I even know who all is on this recording. With the exception of Daniel Hart, I do know that the rest of the Bu Hanan guys play on the record as well as pedal steeler Tom Moorefield, bassist Brad Cook, and the late Wes Philips.

We started that Thanksgiving in 2006, but it took almost 3 years to really get this thing to any point of completion. A hard drive crash took with it 90% of the individual tracking so we just decided to finish the record using the scratch vocals on most the songs. Some songs we were stuck using the drum click tracks I recorded to. Some of the lyrics were incomplete or didn't make sense, but in hindsight it mostly works.

The songs are mostly just vignettes; portraits of people and places that, at the time, were working through my head. Girls. Places I went with girls. The usual. What began in my mind as a relatively straightahead country record met with Bu Hanan's pop zeitgeist and the result was a collection of tunes that range from folky to balls-out/fuzzed-out rock.
